Registration Required

 

Payment for each class is due in full at the time of registration. Classes may not be taken on a pay as you go basis. Class payments by check or money order should be made payable to Cobb Senior Services. Telephone and mail in registrations cannot be accepted.  All class and supply fees must be paid at the time of registration.   Please take note of class meeting times, some classes may have pre-designated breaks.

Cancellation Policy

Class cancellation for registered Seniors will be accepted prior to the class start date.  Cancellations made after this period may or may not be entitled to a full refund, and will be decided on an individual basis.  Any supply fees paid, may not be refunded.  Classes that are not held on a regular class meeting date due to inclement weather, holiday schedules, or instructor illness will be made up. 


Monday

Focus On Fitness

Instructor: Norma Osman and Nancy Hall

9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

Cost: Free

Ongoing (No class November 23, December 21 & 28)

Feel good and ageless; stay fabulous forever! The motivating music will make you want to get up and join the fun. Low impact aerobics in chair; safe and simple moves; with light weights and thera-bands. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing.

 

Pastels: Intermediate

Instructor: Sherry Purvis

9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Cost: Free

October 5 – November 30 (No class November 23)

Great class for students with previous experience: pastels combine the fluency of drawing with vibrancy of color, in an easy to use media. Bring a photo to work from. Drawing and composition skills preferred.

Supply list is available. Space is limited.

 

Pencil Drawing: Beginner/Intermediate

Instructor: Sylvia Steed

1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Cost: $45 Cobb resident; $50 Non-resident

October 5 – November 30 (No class November 23)

Beginner and Intermediate students will learn the basics of drawing while learning about color pencils and adding color interpretation to your drawing. Some experience with drawing is needed but not necessary. Each student will be instructed at his/her own skill level. Supply list is available.

 

Tuesday

Senior Strength Training

Instructor: Helen Brady

9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

Cost: Free

Ongoing (No class November 17 & 24, December 15, 22 & 29)

Improvement of the upper body strength is possible, and it is never too late to start feeling and looking better! Low impact strength training. Great for beginners too! Bring your (light) weights and w ear comfortable shoes clothing.

Watercolors: Intermediate

Instructor: Sylvia Steed Huber

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Cost: $45 Cobb resident; $50 Non-resident

October 6 – December 1 (No class November 24)

Beginning drawing is required. Intermediate students will learn to express themselves in this fascinating medium. Basic watercolor techniques with transparent watercolor, uses of the brushes, mixing of color, as well as design and composition will be explored. Supply list is available.

 

Chair Yoga

Instructor: Helen Brady

10:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m.

Cost: $25 Cobb resident; $30 Non-resident

October 6- December8 (No class: November 17 & 24)

A gentle yoga practiced sitting on a chair, eliminating the difficulty of getting down or up off the floor: yoga postures, breathing and deep relaxation techniques. Wear comfortable clothing.

Wednesday

Great Exercise! If you are ready to learn and have fun, come and line dance to the latest country hits and some of the goldies. No beginners please! Sylvia is a national instructor.

 

Bridge: Advanced

Instructor: Pat Osterfeld

12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Cost: $6 Cobb resident; $8 Non-resident

October 7 – December 16 (No class November 25)

This class will include a quick review of the fundamentals and then focus on learning advanced bidding and playing skills. Each session will include practice time. No beginners please!

 

Line Dance for Beginners

Instructor: Sylvia Irvin

12:15 p.m. – 1:15 p.m.

Cost: $30 Cobb resident; $35 Non-resident

October 7 – December 16 (No class November 25)

Learn the basics of line dance and start off the right foot. Meet new people, get some exercise, and have a lot of fun! Beginners only, please!

 

Creative Writing

Instructor: Julia Evatt

October 7 – December 2 (No class November 25)

Learn to express yourself through writing: fiction, poetry, memoirs. Share your love for the written words, experiences and memories. Beginning and advanced writers welcome.

 

 

Thursday

Zumba Gold

Instructor: Stacy Arthurs

October 1-December 17 (No class November 26, December 10)

New fitness program inspired by Latin dance rhythms, that gives a full, safe and effective body workout.

Wear comfortable clothing.

Waltz: Advanced

Instructor: Mary Hill

1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Cost: $25 Cobb resident; $30 Non-resident

October 1 – November 19

Experienced dancers are welcome to improve their style and technique in waltz – the “queen of all ballroom dances”. No beginners please! Partner preferred but not required.

 

 

Nightclub Two Step for Beginners

Instructor: Mary Hill

2:15 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.

Cost: $25 Cobb resident; $30 Non-resident

October 1 – November 19

Nightclub Two Step was one of the most popular forms of contemporary social dance as a Disco Couples Dance in 1978. Beginners and intermediate dancers welcome. Partner preferred but not required.

Square Dance for Beginners

Instructor/Caller: Bill Agerton

1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Cost: Free

October 2 – December 18 (No class November 27, December 4)

Learn how to Spin the Top, Recycle, Ferris Wheel, Allemande Left, and many more.  Square dancing is fun and friendship set to music! Beginners only, please! Partner preferred but not required.
